Jessica spoke with Jody Levine, MD, a dermatologist in NYC to find out the benefits or preventative care. The concept is simple, “Since frown lines, crow’s-feet, and expression wrinkles are due to the repetitive folding of the skin, people have realized that by injecting earlier, you can keep them from happening in the first place, rather than attempting to fix them after they’ve developed. Slowing down the use of these muscles early in adult life will prevent the lines from developing.”
Jody mentions that she sees a lot of treatment for mouth angles. "By injecting Botox into the muscles that control the downturn of the sides of the mouth—a motion we do not need to do—one can prevent the formation of marionette lines, which, once they form, are very hard to treat."
So, When Should I Start?
Whenever the patient notices lines early enough! The ideal patient is one that knows they are forming and will only continue to set up residence.
A more specific age; Botox is approved for 18 years or older but most start using Botox around 29-30. As early as 25 is an emerging trend and seems to be the popular choice in the emerging Instagram era. But, it's not common to build up lines before that!
Other Measures
To avoid catalysts, it is highly recommended to wear sunscreen, hats, and moisturize! Botox, mixed with a healthy lifestyle, can prevent exuberant lines.
